General College Information...

College Visits:

All Seniors are invited to take up to three college days to visit colleges. The student and parents will  need to set up the appointment with college, go with our school on a campus visit, or speak with the school guidance counselor.

Completing College Applications:

We are available to assist you with completing college applications.  Most colleges have an online application.  Be prepared to offer your current grade point average (GPA), highest ACT or SAT scores, biographical information, extracurricular involvement, educational history, academic honors, etc. (college application have to be filled out by students & parents due to personal & financial information requested)
.

There is also the Common Application:

This is an application which many of the schools have agreed upon and the colleges participating agree to give full and equal consideration to this form.  To download this form go to
www.commonapp.org .  These forms are also available in the school office.

Please remember this is the only representation some people in the admissions office will see of you. Please be neat and include all that is required.

Writing Effective College Essays:

#1   Follow Directions.
#2   Type the essay.
#3   Be original.
#4   Proofread and have your parents or teacher critique your essay.

The colleges are attempting to get to know you as a person: your gifts, strengths and abilities, and interests. The colleges are attempting to see if you can express yourself on paper.  This is your chance to shine.  You know how to write--show them!

Scholarship Essays:

It is very important that you are original and creative.  The admissions committee reads so many of these letters, remember this and make your essay appealing to read.

If you can choose your topic make sure you choose something that is respectable, that you care about, and do your research.  This is not the time to do an average job.

Be true to yourself.  Your personality is unique and interesting--don't try to be someone else.

Do your research--even if the topic is about you--reflect.

Proofread and have your parents or a teacher critique your writing.

If you are having trouble getting started, just start writing and brainstorming.

Resumes for Seniors:

All Seniors are required to submit a resume to the office in the Fall of the Senior Year.

This resume should include your name, address, telephone number, and email as well as education information, honor and awards, activities, volunteer work, after school jobs, etc.

A clear outline and sample will be provided for each Senior.
